RHINOCEROS
同大自然的其它動物相比,人類是種缺陷的存在,他不够強壯也不够迅捷,不够龐然大物也不够袖珍,落入角鬥場,不會是野獸的對手;人類還是盜賊的後代,所以能活到現在,是靠偷動物的技術,偷鳥的翅膀、偷魚的鰭,偷犀牛的皮膚和角,但如果人類徹底變成犀牛——這種單純而又強壯的草食動物,那究竟是童話抑或噩夢?
尤涅斯庫的《犀牛》寫下資本主義社會終將導致世界末日的預言,而這版《犀牛》想要探討疫情後人類是否還能同自然和解?病毒肆虐使人類自絕於世,只有臥室的電腦荧幕是安全的,網路媒體將疫情期間的「苦中作樂」變成了可供消遣觀賞的短視頻,人類像在觀察動物一樣觀察極端情境下的自己,每一棟建築、每一扇窗戶甚至每一座城市都成了巨大的「人類動物園」,園中蔓延的「犀牛病」並非來源於遙遠的外界,而是人類自身的糾錯機制和重建世界的免疫系統。或許,退化為「犀牛」的都市傳說提供給我們的是反思人類進化發展的機會——災難面前,人類無比渺小,需喚醒我們久違的敬畏之情。
Compared with other animals in nature, the existence of human beings is a defect. They are not enough strong or fast and are not enough big or small. They will not match for wild animals if put into the arena. Human beings are also descendants of thieves, so they can live to the present by stealing technologies of animals, wings of birds, fins of fish, and skin and horns of rhinoceros. But if human beings completely become rhinoceros—a simple and strong herbivore, would it be a fairy tale or a nightmare?
It was written in Eugene Ionesco’s “Rhinoceros” the prophecy that capitalist society will eventually lead to the end of the world, and the “Rhinoceros” in this edition wants to explore whether human beings can reconcile with nature after the epidemic. The ravage of viruses makes mankind isolated from all over the world, and only the computer screen in the bedroom is safe. The network media turned “having fun during the bitter epidemic period” into a short video for recreation. Human beings observe themselves in extreme situations like observing animals. Every building, window, and even every city has turned out to be a huge “human zoo”. The “rhinoceros disease” spreading in the park does not come from the distant outside world but from human's own mechanism for correcting errors and the immunity of rebuilding the world. Perhaps, the urban legend degenerated into “rhinoceros” provides us with the opportunity to reflect on the human beings’ evolution and development—Human beings were extremely small when facing the disaster, which our long-lost awe needs to awaken.
