DAILY_UNUSUAL EVERYDAY
「群眾」突然出現在先前什麼也沒有的地方,也許是少數幾個人站在一起,五個人、十個人或十二個人,沒有預期,卻突然變成了許多人,仿佛所有的大街都通往這裏。在地鐵,在城中心公園,在超級市場的貨架前,他們不說話,他們是匿名者,是大多數。
紀錄劇場《群眾》是一次創作者與命題相遇的過程,將作品的生產轉變為一次生活的契機——返回並重新經驗「群眾」,他們是「日常生活的專家」,是被歷史書寫的人,而不是書寫歷史的人,向這些普通人賦權,讓他們登上舞臺,讓劇場在高樓林立的城市完成一次下沉,而群眾將從四面八方湧來。

The masses show themselves in the middle of nowhere. They could be a few people standing together, five, ten or twelve. There is no expectation among them. Suddenly they grow to a massive number as if all roads end at this point, transporting all pedestrians here. They are in the metro. They are in public parks. They stand in front of the shelves in supermarkets. Not speaking, anonymous, they are the majority.
Documentary theatre “The Masses” is an encounter with this subject that transposes a theatre production into reflection on life: going back and re-experiencing the masses that are experts on living daily life. They are the ones written in history by others rather than themselves. By investing power in these ordinary people and giving them the stage, the theatre has successfully descended into the jungle of skyscrapers that allows the masses to surge from all directions.

2013年,我參加了由北京紙老虎戲劇工作室與德國慕尼克室內劇院合作的劇場專案「群眾」的前期調研工作。10月17日,由田戈兵導演的《非常高興》在紙老虎空間進行了第一期排練「工作中表演」。那晚他在微信裏對我說:「不要脫離群眾。」
2014年,天津群眾藝術館委約我做一個劇場作品。1月13日,我在天津通過微信向老田認領「群眾」,想創作一個紀錄劇場,他說他很高興。
1月21日,《群眾》開始排練,他們有家庭主婦、教師、職員、藝校生,都是再平凡不過的普通人。
1月28日,由日常生活的文檔構作出劇場文本。李鑒老師反復修改他的PPT。
2月5日,一起去KTV,留下了視頻,但沒有在最後演出中使用它。
2月10日,我短暫離開國內。導演助理與劇組部分成員開始玩一款叫做《山屋驚魂》的桌遊。
2月17日,帶了一些禮物給大家。
2月19日,馮娜阿姨做的是湯圓。
2月20日,馮娜阿姨做的是湯圓和土豆沙拉。
2月21日,《群眾》于天津群眾藝術館首演。第一次放禮花。

In 2013, I participated in the research for the masses, a co-production by Paper Tiger Theatre Studio Beijing and the Munich Kammerspiele. On Oct 17th, “Totally Happy” by TianGebing was shown to the public as a performance in progress at the Paper Tiger’s studio space. That night, Tian sent me a WeChat message: “Do not detach yourself from the masses.”
In the beginning of 2014, I was commissioned to make a piece of theatre by the Tianjin Mass Art Centre. On Jan 13th, I had Tian’s support to start a documentary theatre called The Masses. He said he was totally happy.
On Jan 21st, the rehearsals of “The Masses” started. We had ordinary people from different fields of life: housewives, teachers, office workers, and art students.
On Jan 28th, a text was formed with daily-life documents. Li Jian revised his PPT document again and again.
On Feb 5th, some of us went to KTV for a video recording which was not used in the final performance.
On Feb 10th, I went abroad briefly. My assistant director and others in the company started to play a board game called “Betrayal at House on the Hill”.
On Feb 17th, I brought presents.
On Feb 19th, Feng Na made Tangyuan, a traditional Chinese rice ball soup.
On Feb 20th, Feng Na made Tangyuan and potato salad.
On Feb 21st, “The Masses” debuted in Tianjin Mass Art Centre. Fireworks were introduced into the performance.
